Shopify Label Printing for On-Demand Delivery
Getcho has dispatched and managed tens of thousands of local deliveries on behalf of retailers, grocery stores, laundromats and restaurants.
Many of our partners sell their products on Shopify. We have built tools for:
- Selectively offering local delivery on checkout
- Seamless driver pick-up
- ”Closest store” fulfillment for partners with more than one location
What about the low-fruit of same-day delivery? Simply using local carriers for orders in the neighborhood? You can offer this VIP service in 30 seconds with the Getcho Shopify app.
Why offer same-day delivery
Customers expect fast delivery. Even loyal customers will abandon their cart for Amazon if they need something more quickly than you can fulfill.
Plus same-day and next-day delivery have a drastic impact on repeat business. We’ve found that a customer is 3x as likely to place a second order when their first is fulfilled in hours instead of days.
Our delivery support agent receives messages like these:
- Thank you, received! Do you have good prices on Californian wines by the case? And champagne?
- I didn’t realize it could come so fast! I placed another one because my sister is here and loved them.
It may have been a major investment to offer local delivery before solutions like Uber Direct existed, but in 2025 it’s a breeze.
What is Uber Direct
Uber Direct enables businesses to tap into the expansive Uber network for on-demand delivery. The Uber Direct API is a means for automating dispatch and delivery; it empowers businesses to offer local delivery without needing to build their own driver fleet.
Batching and swaps
On-demand delivery providers are quite flexible. They transport bags of food and clothes; they don’t strictly require a packaged, labeled parcel.
However, too much flexibility can be risky. Some drivers make hundreds of deliveries per day; they often carry three deliveries at a time. It’s in everyone’s interest to make sure they don’t mix up orders.
Printed labels can all but eliminate the risk of swapped orders:
- The printed address provides a quick visual cue for the driver. Is this stop the right one?
- Certain fleets like Uber Direct support barcode verification. That is, the driver must scan the correct barcode prior to delivery.
Printing local delivery labels
Any business can offer same-day delivery by tapping into fleets like Uber Direct, DoorDash, and Roadie. And with barcode verification, they can minimize the chance of misdeliveries. But getting set up an integrating barcodes sounds like a lot of work, right? Wrong! You can do all of the above just by installing Getcho’s Shopify app.
Once you do that, you will see a print label button on the order page.

Printing this label does three things:
- It generates a PDF that you can affix to the order
- It dispatches an on-demand delivery driver for the time of your choosing.
- It ties the barcode on the label to the delivery task. That ensures that your driver will deliver the right package.

What happens after dispatching a local delivery driver
Getcho does a lot more than dispatch. For each delivery, Getcho generates a tracking page with your logo for the customer to follow. It’s part of the concierge delivery experiences that makes customers come back.

Our system sends notifications to the store as the delivery progresses. When it’s handed off, we request a photo from the driver and run an automatic delivery audit to make sure everything’s in the exact right place. Getcho partners don’t have to worry about customers saying they never got their package – we make sure of it.
